“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me
I return to this little poem of Emily Dickinson’s again and again. It seems to bring to life the possibility and responsibility of hope.
Hope without action is a featherless bird. Action is the song of hope.
And so I invite you to write your song of 2019 and express your hope in actions on the glorious pages of your own BE-ing 2019 Vision Book.
We will gently dissect your hope and reorganize it into doable steps that are easier to put into action, moving from ideas like the overwhelming, “be a better person” to “remember to breathe before responding to inflationary language” or “just hear their story with an open heart”.
Together we will feather the wings of our hope so that it will fly into 2019 singing!
